Almost All Better

For some reason, ever since I got to BYU, I keep getting sick! I had a cold for 2-3 weeks and then I got a GNARLY flu that totally messed me up!

I have come to the conclusion that being sick in college is the worst thing ever. It's different when you're in high school and you get sick because you don't really miss THAT much, but in college you miss you much even if you just miss one day! Not only that, but when you get sick in college all you have is a bed. Basically that's it. I'm lucky cause I have amazing girls that live in my hall that took such good care of me! I love them, they're awesome!

So now I'm pretty much better. I'm still working on it, but my guess is by next week I'll be at 100%.

Mid-terms Already?

Oh my goodness, it feels like I just started class and I'm already up to my eyes in mid-terms! What the heck?! I did OK in Music 101, I think I'll manage alright in Physical Science, but Book of Mormon is gunna kill me I can just tell. NO ME GUSTA =[

So everyone keeps asking me about my roommate! Her name is Gretchen, she's from Florida, she doesn't like bright colors, she's a great grocery shopper, she has a padlock on her computer, her favorite food is scones particularly blueberry, and she is basically the nicest roommate in the whole world! I think at first we were both a bit skeptical cause we were kinda just thrown together, but I'm a big fan! We balance each other out really well I think and we have fun, so yea! SHE'S LEGIT!

Oh man, I have to write about my birthday! Gretchen was SO SWEET and bought me a flower for my birthday! It's a daisy and it's lovely! She also got me a ton of coupons for different stuff around campus like the MOA Cafe, the hair salon, and of course Creamery Icecream! She was so nice and it totally made my day =] It was weird being away from my family on my big 1-9 but I managed! All of the girls in my dorm were so sweet and decorated our dorm door with balloons and candy and stuff and it was lovely! So now I have enough junk food to last till the end of winter semester, but that's cool! I also went to see World of Dance here at BYU and then got Creamery Icecream with Kaitlin (a girl next door to me in my dorm) and Shelby (as in Hitze! from Washington!). So fun!!!! So now I'm 19 and I do feel older. I think it's cause my next birthday will be the big 2-0 which seems crazy!

Oh, and thanks everyone for all the birthday wishes on Facebook! I mean, sure most of you just got that little notification and were like "Oh! I better go put something on her wall!" but it was still cool. MUCHAS GRACIAS!

Hey, it's Friday night! I gotta go have me some fun!

So now that I'm here . . .

. . . I guess I'm gunna have to document. Lots of people are pretty stoked about me comin' to BYU (but not as stoked as me, just need to clear that up) and they want to hear "all about it". So I've made a blog (cause I guess that's what people are doin' these days) so that you guys can stay in the know.

First off, BYU is legit. As in the coolest thing ever. I'm pretty sure I was born to do this whole college thing cause I love everything about it! I love my schedule, the fast pace, the awesome people, the itty-bitty dorm room that I get to live in, the bad cafeteria food, the sporting events, and on and on and on. It's such an amazing atmosphere to be in 24/7, like how we say a prayer before every class . . . whoa. That was crazy on the first day! I was like "Really? We do that?" Yea. We do that. We also pray before every meal, every football game, every choir concert, and every lecture. Everyone is so . . . Mormon! I haven't heard a cuss word in almost 3 weeks, which is a record FOR SURE! I didn't really realize the difference these habits make in the atmosphere of school, but now that I'm almost adjusted I realize that they have EVERYTHING to do with it.

So classes, they're tough, but I like it. I'm taking Physical Science, Music 101, Writing 150, Trigonometry, Career Exploration, and Book of Mormon. I was dumb this semester and got 8am and 9am classes. I will NEVER make that mistake again! I thought "Well maybe I'll learn to be a morning person!" Psh, yea right! I wish! Sorry Mom, I've never been a joy in the morning, and I'm not starting now. I tried, but it was an epic F A I L .

I really like Music 101 and I've decided to go with the whole music vibe and chose Sound Recording Technology as my major for now instead of business. I have more fun with music, so I forgot about business. Right now the class is just a ton of vocab and listening to Medieval music, but I hear it gets better :)

In my Writing 150 class we are writing about food for the whole semester. It's 110% better than the other classes that are writing about economics and political rhetoric. YUCKY. So yea, I'm very happy that I have a good writing teacher that realizes that my papers will be better if I'm writing about something I relate to rather than something I couldn't care less about . . . like economics and political rhetoric (teehee).

Trig is trig. I'm doing it, but it's not my favorite.

My favorite class, by far, is Career Exploration! I was skeptical at first, but I think they should rename the class to reflect the focus a bit better: Self Exploration. I'm learning so much about what I'm good at, what I suck at, and why I am how I am. I love it! Right now we're focusing on learning who we are so that we can decide what we want for ourselves and what Heavenly Father wants for us. It's super fun and I never skip it! (hahaha =])

If any of the kids in my home ward EVER whine about how hard seminary is I will call them up and tell them about my Book of Mormon class. In a nutshell, it's seminary on serious steroids! WOW. I can't decide if I despise the class and how much work it is, or if I like being forced to read the Book of Mormon for a grade . . . I know which option I'm leaning toward . . . but I won't get into that right now =]

So yea, it's really kinda late here in Provo (for all you Washingtonians I'm an hour ahead), especially for this dummy that scheduled 8am Physical Science three days a week (gag.), so I'm gunna go to bed. MORE TO COME!

Love,
Austianna
